If you are an outdoors person and do a lot of camping and hiking spending most of your summer weekends in the mountains, at the lake, or by the seashore then using camp stoves is a basic necessity. They are available in many different varieties, makes and models and price ranges. The main thing that you will need to decide, is what type while fit your needs the best. One burner or two, propane or liquid gas.?
If you are a backpacker you can find camp stoves that are made just for you. These usually are made of aluminum and the burner folds for carrying. These stoves are available in both gas and propane. Gas has an advantage because it will heat faster and you don't have to worry about where to dispose of an empty propane container. As far as carrying the fuel there are special aluminum, leak proof containers that are made in, usually, pint sizes that work fine. On the side of propane, it is convenient, there isn't any need for a funnel to fill the stove and less chance of leakage.
If, you are more of a car type camper, or have a family, then a two burner stove is the much better choice. You will be able to cook a larger amount of food in a quicker time and with a lot less shuffling around of pots and pans. Like the camp stoves for backpackers these are available in both gas and propane and basically the fuel choice is the same, with one exception. Most of the propane two burner camp stoves will be smaller. Some also have a separate adapter that you can buy that will allow you to connect with a regular propane tank. If you are also using propane lanterns, heater and the like this is the way to go.
With any stove, always check for leaks before using. On gas type stoves make sure that the filler lid is on tight before you pressurize the tank. Never refuel a hot stove, or try to refuel it when it is operating. The results are not pretty. Always make sure that you are using the fuel that is recommended by the maker of the camp stoves. In the gas of gas stoves make sure that the fuel is fresh and clean Never use inside a tent!
